“I came in carrying more than I knew how to name. What I found here was not just a therapist — it was a place where the whole of me was taken seriously.”
— Client, Houston
It is not enough to take steps which may someday lead to a goal — each step must itself be a goal.
The Resilient Minds Model is the clinical framework at the heart of Gravitas Excelsa Center — a structured, integrative method that coordinates therapy, performance psychology, nutritional science, nervous system care, and spiritual formation into one cohesive plan. Every service and private track offered at GEC is delivered through this framework.
Developed from clinical work spanning psychiatric inpatient care, adolescent and young adult counseling, and high-performance environments — it serves clients from their earliest formative years through the most demanding chapters of professional life.
"Run your race with strength, peace, and purpose — in every season of life."
Inspired by 1 Corinthians 9:24
The glory of God is a human being fully alive.

There is a particular kind of loneliness that surfaces in people who, from the outside, appear to have everything.
It appears in young athletes who cannot name what is wrong. In students moving through each day even as they begin to feel overwhelmed, exhausted, or unlike themselves. In professionals who have long since learned how to appear composed, capable, and fine.
Across clinical care, Catholic schools, mission work, and private practice — one reality surfaces again and again. What is present is rarely a lack of intelligence, effort, or desire. More often, it is a longing.
To find meaning in what has been carried. To understand not just what to do, but who to become. To learn how to meet suffering, pressure, and responsibility with the full strength of mind, body, and spirit — rather than around them. To recover interior freedom, even when circumstances cannot be changed. And to encounter someone willing to remain in the difficult conversation long enough for clarity, direction, and truth to emerge.
Gravitas Excelsa Center exists because that longing deserves more than reassurance. It deserves serious, meaningful care.
“Strength should be formed long before someone begins to fall apart.”
Formation of conscience, discernment of direction, a life aligned with what is true and good — built before the pressure arrives, not assembled in the wreckage after.
Dignity. Weight. The seriousness of character that comes not from performance — but from being formed from within.
Elevated. Excellent. The highest expression of what a person, rightly formed, is capable of becoming.
Together, they name what this practice is built to cultivate — the depth of character that grounds a person, and the elevation of life that becomes possible when that character is formed well.
The years between early adolescence and the height of professional life are among the most defining — and the most under-served. Not because people are not seeking help, but because the help available too often stops at the surface.
Gravitas Excelsa Center was built for the people who need more than symptom relief. For the student who keeps showing up but is quietly losing ground. For the professional who has never been invited to go deeper. For the athlete who has achieved everything and still cannot find peace. The need, in each case, is the same — not crisis response. Formation. The kind of care that builds interior strength before the weight becomes unbearable.
“Between stimulus and response, there is a space. In that space lies our freedom.”
Viktor Frankl — We help clients find and hold that space, before the pressure makes it impossible to see.
“Every part of a person is worth caring for — mind, body, and spirit.”
The foundation of Gravitas Excelsa Center — no dimension of the person is left outside the care plan.
Most care asks: what is the presenting problem? Gravitas Excelsa Center asks something different — who is this person, and what does the whole of their life require? The answers demand more than one discipline.
Delivered through the Resilient Minds clinical framework
Therapy addresses what the mind holds. But the nervous system, the gut, sleep, and the body’s inflammatory state all shape whether healing is even possible. Clinical work without attending to these is working with one hand tied.
Performance, recovery, nutrition, and physical regulation are not separate from mental health — they are its infrastructure. The body is not incidental to who a person is; it is an expression of it. What a person eats, how they sleep, how their nervous system is regulated, and how they understand and honor their physical self all shape how much capacity they have to grow.
Without a grounding in purpose, values, and something larger than achievement, even the most stable and high-functioning person can find themselves empty. Formation attends to who a person is becoming — not only how they are performing.
This is why Gravitas Excelsa Center coordinates therapy, performance psychology, nutritional science, nervous system care, and spiritual formation into a single, cohesive plan. Not because it is ambitious — but because anything less leaves too much on the table.
Most therapists cannot speak formation. Most formation directors cannot do clinical. Dr. Malixi trained across both — from psychiatric inpatient units to Ignatian retreat settings. That range is rare.
Referral-based care fragments the person across multiple providers who rarely communicate. Here, every dimension — mental, physical, nutritional, spiritual — is held by a clinician who knows your full story.
An EdD in educational leadership alongside clinical supervision means Dr. Malixi has built and repaired systems at scale — and knows what breaks in people when those systems fail them.
True growth is not about fixing what is broken. It is about becoming the kind of person who can carry responsibility, make clear decisions, and live in alignment with what is true and good — even when it is costly.
What surfaces most consistently — across age groups, backgrounds, and levels of achievement — is not a deficit of information. It is a deficit of depth. Of someone willing to stay in the hard conversation long enough for real formation to take hold.
Clients here are guided in discernment — learning to recognize what leads toward life, to choose well under pressure, and to move with clarity rather than reaction. They leave with more than coping strategies. They leave more formed.
Formation is not a program. It is a way of working — patient, honest, and ordered toward the flourishing of the whole person over time.
We work at the level of character, conscience, and interior resilience — so that growth lasts far beyond the session.
Clients learn to recognize what leads toward life — and to move with clarity rather than reaction, even when the pressure to choose otherwise is enormous.
Faith informs the depth and direction of care — present in the way we work, never imposed. All are welcome, regardless of background or tradition.
Why what you eat shapes how you feel, think, and perform
For too long, clinical care treated the mind in isolation — as if the body carrying it were incidental. The research has since confirmed what careful clinicians observed: the gut and the brain are in constant conversation, and that conversation shapes mood, focus, resilience, and mental health in ways that cannot be addressed through talk therapy alone.
At Gravitas Excelsa Center, nutrition and lifestyle are not add-ons to therapy. They are woven into the clinical framework from the start — because a person cannot be well in parts.
The microbiome produces serotonin, dopamine, and GABA — neurotransmitters regulating mood, focus, and stress response. An inflamed gut directly impairs mental clarity.
Anti-inflammatory foods and microbiome support reduce anxiety and depression — sometimes as powerfully as medication alone. What you eat is a clinical variable, not a lifestyle footnote.
Sleep deprivation dysregulates the HPA axis, elevates cortisol, and impairs emotional regulation. Nervous system recovery is a clinical priority — not an afterthought.
Chronic inflammation is linked to depression, anxiety, and cognitive decline. Addressing it through nutrition, movement, and sleep is foundational — not supplemental.
Whether you are seeking care for yourself or for someone you care about — this is built for the full weight of a life, at whatever level you are carrying it.
Gravitas Excelsa Center was created out of a deep recognition that the years between early adolescence and the height of professional life are among the most defining — and the most under-supported.
Too often, support arrives only after someone has reached a breaking point — whether they are a 14-year-old athlete quietly unraveling, or a high-profile professional holding everything together in public while falling apart in private. Frankl wrote that between stimulus and response, there is a space — and in that space lies our freedom. We help people find and hold that space.
Strength should be formed long before someone begins to fall apart.
This includes the formation of conscience, discernment of direction, and the development of a life aligned with what is true and good.
A quiet framework guiding how clients grow — not only in strength, but in clarity, responsibility, and direction.
Growth is not only about reducing symptoms or improving performance. It is about becoming the kind of person who can carry responsibility, make clear decisions, and live in alignment with what is true and good.
Clients are guided in discernment — learning how to choose well, how to recognize what leads toward life, and how to move with clarity rather than reaction.
A growing network of counselors and holistic care professionals serving clients with warmth, discretion, and therapeutic depth.
Founder & Clinical Director
Dr. Malixi is a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor with a doctorate in educational leadership from Saint Louis University. Her clinical background spans acute inpatient care, adolescent and young adult counseling, crisis intervention, substance use support, Catholic educational leadership, performance psychology, and integrative nutritional wellness.
She founded Gravitas Excelsa Center after nearly a decade directing a nationally recognized counseling program at an all-boys Catholic high school in Houston — where she watched, year after year, as gifted young people arrived carrying more than those around them knew, and far more than most systems were built to hold. Something had to be built differently. Out of that conviction grew the Resilient Minds Model — the clinical framework at the center of everything GEC does.
Her formation as a clinician did not happen only in classrooms. It took shape in hospital corridors and mission fields — nationally and internationally, in Haiti, Costa Rica, and beyond — in retreat settings and in thousands of quiet, unhurried conversations where the real questions were finally given room. Each of those places left something in her. That something lives in the way she works.
Nutrition became a clinical priority not as a trend, but as a conviction earned through observation. In acute care settings, she watched patients improve or plateau in ways that could not be explained by therapy alone. The connection between what people ate, how they slept, how their nervous systems were regulated — and how available they were to heal — was undeniable. Integrating nutritional science and gut-brain health into clinical practice was not an addition to the work. It was a completion of it.
She has learned — sometimes the hard way — that the best work happens when you let go of control and stay close to what matters. She is a wife, a mother of four, a lover of music and the sea, and someone who has never been entirely able to sit still. She believes God places exactly the right people in our lives at exactly the right moment, that every person carries a call worth taking seriously, and that formation — in a person, in a practice — is never really finished.
Dr. Malixi offers individual and group clinical supervision for LPC Practicum students, LPC Associates working toward licensure, and licensed counselors seeking supervision in a focused area of practice.
Supervision at GEC is grounded in the Resilient Minds Model — meaning supervision is not only about case review and hours logged. It is about forming the clinician: building clinical identity, deepening discernment, and developing the interior resilience that makes sustained, high-quality therapeutic work possible over time.
The best supervisors do not just sign off on hours. They invest in who you are becoming as a clinician.

Structured, discreet pathways built around where you are right now. Each track is sequenced, intentional, and delivered within the Resilient Minds clinical framework.
Structured, discreet pathways designed around the client's current season. Each track integrates therapeutic care, performance psychology, holistic health, and deeper human formation.
At the heart of every track is the Resilient Minds Model — the clinical framework developed by Dr. Malixi that integrates therapy, performance psychology, nutritional science, nervous system care, and spiritual formation into one cohesive plan. Programs are not standalone offerings. They are structured pathways within that framework, calibrated to your particular season. Rather than isolated sessions, clients enter a defined track — a sequenced pathway with clear goals, built-in continuity, and measurable direction. Think of it as interior training. The same discipline that builds physical performance — consistency, progressive challenge, expert guidance, recovery — applied to the mind, the nervous system, and the formation of the whole person. The outcome is not just stability. It is expanded capacity.
Every step is intentional. Every dimension of the person is held. This is what it looks like to work with Gravitas Excelsa Center — from first contact through sustained formation.
Reach out through the contact page or schedule directly through the client portal. You can share as little or as much as you feel comfortable with. There is no pressure and no clinical intake at this stage.
A complimentary 15-minute phone consultation to connect, answer your questions, and ensure this is the right fit before moving forward. There is no obligation and no clinical assessment at this stage — only a real conversation.
This is not a standard intake. It is a carefully designed, 90-minute session built to understand you fully — your nervous system, your history, your physiological health, your interior life, your patterns of thought, your relationships, and where you are carrying more than your current structure can sustain.
The intake spans every dimension of the Resilient Minds framework: mind, body, spirit, and performance. It is the foundation everything else is built upon. Before this session, you will complete a detailed pre-intake questionnaire at your own pace.
What the intake covers: Your history and what brought you here — nervous system baseline and physiological health — nutrition, sleep, and gut health — thought patterns and cognitive load — identity, purpose, and direction — performance and functioning — spiritual life and interior grounding — relationships, environment, and safety — strengths, barriers, and 90-day goals.
Based on your intake, a personalized plan is built across all relevant dimensions. This may include therapeutic sessions, performance consulting, nutritional guidance, nervous system support, and spiritual formation — coordinated as one cohesive plan, not fragmented referrals.
Sessions unfold across whatever dimensions your plan addresses. This might look like clinical therapy one week, a nutritional consultation the next, and a coaching session focused on performance under pressure. All within the Resilient Minds framework. All moving in one direction.
Sessions are not limited to the office. Depending on your plan and what the work calls for, sessions may include walk-and-talks, visits to the grocery store to build nutritional literacy, or other real-world environments where formation actually happens.
Progress is reviewed regularly and the plan is adjusted as you grow. Some clients transition into Continuum Care for ongoing accountability and refinement. Others complete a track and step back with a clear foundation they trust. Either way, what was built holds.
Formation, like performance, is never really finished. It is an ongoing practice.
“You are not meant to be great one day, good the next, and gone before you know it. You are meant to build something that holds.”
The work of Gravitas Excelsa Center does not end at the individual. When schools, teams, and organizations are shaped around formation — around the full development of the people within them — the impact compounds. That is what institutional partnerships make possible.
